We, the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, will protect and promote our cultural and spiritual values. We will strive to live in harmony and respect the Creator and all creation. We will commit to our Isga beliefs and utilize every resource that the Creator has bestowed upon us to empower our people, spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally.

Wanigazhadã Dukin Uzhihibi (How We Were Raised in Our Community / Our Core Values / Our Traditional Laws)

These laws are the sacred foundation of the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation. They guide our nation, our way of life, and our responsibilities to the Creator and all beings.

  1. Wakâ Wizhanabi (Faith in the Creator) – This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. God is our Creator. He created heaven and earth, mankind and all creation.
  2. Wahogicobi (Kinship) / ?om Umazhihibi (Raised With) / Mihaadabi (My Family) – This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. Family is the heart of life and the foundation for future generations. Cherish, protect, and care for your family always, for in their strength lies the survival of our people.
  3. Tocaxa / Docaxa / Dacaxa / Wezhexa (Work) – This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. Work is a meaningful part of life. Always do your best to live honorably and provide for yourself and your family with care and duty.
  4. Wahnobami (Respect) – This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. Show respect, even in difficult times.
  5. Gicexbamshi (Love one another.) - This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. Love others, the way God loves you.
  6. Ugicigebi (Compassion) – This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. Be compassionate to one another, share what you have and help others, for the Creator loves that.
  7. Wezheka I?abi (Truth) – This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. Tell the truth. Speak as if the Creator is standing beside you.
  8. Woshiginabi (Caring for Each Other) / Wiidami (Kindness) – This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. Take care of each other, pray for one another and show kindness to one another. Care especially for the orphans, the widows and the sick in their time of need, for the Creator asks you to do that.
  9. Sabebi (Wisdom) – This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. All wisdom that comes from the Creator. Seek his understanding first.
  10. Hûga (Leader) / Hûgakebi (They made him lead. Also ‘Chief or Spokesman’) – This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. Every family has a leader, and true leaders work together in unity for the well-being of the people.
  11. Owadēgic’ebi (Peace / Get Along) – This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. Peace is essential to wellbeing and good relations. Honour the Creator by getting along with one another.
  12. Igizhigc’ēbi Yohabi (Forgiveness) – This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. Because our Creator is all compassionate, we must seek forgiveness and generously extend it to others.
  13. Hashnashi (Courage) – This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. Stand firm, and in moments of hardship, turn to the Creator for guidance. He walks with you always, so there is no need to fear.
  14. Dukenak Hicedok (Hope) – This is an ancient law that has been passed down for generations, since the beginning of existence. Keep a positive mind and heart and call upon the Creator for results that are just and good
