Yellowhead Tribal Council (YTC)

Yellowhead Tribal Council was established in 1977 by Alexander First Nation, Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, Enoch Cree Nation, O'Chiese First Nation, and Sunchild First Nation to the meet the educational needs of its member nations in the context of its primary purpose - to foster social, political and economic development.


Treaty 6

The office of the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations was created in the spring of 1993. Its purpose: to serve as the united political voice for those First Nations of Treaty Six who were involved, because they believe that there is a need for fundamental treaty and human rights of First Nations people to be protected.

The Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations is dedicated to ensuring that the terms, spirit, and intent of Treaty Six are honoured and respected. The right of First Nations to self-determination must be honoured and respected - this includes the right to choose their own government and political structures, and to determine and direct the social, cultural, spiritual, and economic advancement of their people.

Assembly of First Nations (AFN)

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is a national advocacy organization representing First Nation citizens in Canada, which includes more than 900,000 people living in 634 First Nation communities and in cities and towns across the country.


The Assembly of Treaty Chiefs (AoTC)

The Assembly of Treaty Chiefs (AoTC) - of Treaty 6, Treaty 7 and Treaty 8 - is the political body established for the collective, cooperative and mutual support on common Treaty objectives towards better protection and promotion of their separate, individual treaties.

The AoTC provides regional political forums for all Treaty areas in Alberta and works to protect, promote and enforce inherent rights and the true spirit and original intent of the Treaties as told and understood by the Elders.

The unified Chief’s political process of the AoTC is the common tie for collective discussions and to pass resolutions dealing with common issues and shared concerns such as health, education, socio-economic services, justice and the environment.
